I just had a wonderfully stimulating lunch with some folks from J Vineyards. Attending were Kathryn Lindstrom, their COO, George Rose their Communications Director, and Melissa Stackhouse their VP of Winemaking. In the Russian River Valley, not only does J Vineyards produce excellent Chardonnays and Pinots, but they are wonderful people to boot. Speaking to Melissa made me want to go to their vineyards and to smell the earth. Their president, Judy, is a geologist, and they take the contribution of terroir to the quality of their wine very seriously. Now, don't take my word for it. Wine appreciation is like art appreciation. You may have a technically excellent product, which this is, but it may not appeal to your particular tastes. My recommendation is that you read our reviews of their wines and then order a wine tasting case for your enjoyment. You cannot go wrong with any of their offerings but you must taste them and make your own decision. If your distributor does not offer their wine, then harass them until they do. For consumers, luckily, you can join their wine club and order online. Their Web site is J Vineyards. Cheers!
