For the first time the New York City Wine & Food Festival is hosting a Tribute Dinner to honor the immense contributions of two individuals in the culinary and wine worlds. The Festival is proud to honor His Royal Highness Prince Robert of Luxembourg and Culinary Legend Jacques Pépin during this formal evening at Pier Sixty.
His Royal Highness Prince Robert of Luxembourg is the managing director of Domaine Clarence Dillon, the family that currently owns the rights to the Château Haut-Brion wine estates, a label that traces its roots back to 1533. Prince Robert’s great-grandfather Clarence Dillon purchased Château Haut-Brion in 1935 and has successfully kept the estate in the family. In addition to maintaining the Château Haut-Brion moniker, Prince Robert is also responsible for the first super premium Bordeaux varietal sold under the Clarendelle Wine label.
Jacques Pépin, a highly acclaimed French chef, is best known for his cookbooks and TV shows that introduced Americans to traditional French cuisine. Along with Julie Child, Pépin is credited with simplifying techniques for at-home cooks to enjoy the most difficult and famous French dishes. Today, Pépin serves as Dean of Special Programs at the French Culinary Institute, part of the International Culinary Center, in New York City and is featured quarterly in Food & Wine in a column about the changes in the culinary scene over the last 50 years.
Ariane Daguin, with the help of Abigail Kirsch Executive Chef Alison Awerbuch, will host a Champagne Perrier-Jouët reception preceding the dinner. Along with the bubbly, the reception will feature varietals of Clarendelle Rouge and Clarendelle White wines as well as accompaniments from Ariane Daguin’s organic meat purveyor D'Artagnan. Also enjoy domestic, imported and farm raised Caviar, and Smoked Salmon from New York City's own, Caviarteria.
Preparing the courses for this sophisticated soiree are five incredible chefs, who in their own right have changed the way the world views restaurant cuisine preparations over the last 25 years. Chefs Daniel Boulud, Alain Ducasse, Laurent Gras, Alain Sailhac and Jacques Torres will cook for distinguished guests while Martha Stewart serves as the emcee for the evening. The chef’s dishes will be paired with the following wines:
Le Clarence de Haut-Brion 2008
La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion 2007
Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1996
Château Haut-Brion 1995
Clarendelle Amberwine
The venue for this dinner is Pier Sixty, Manhattan’s largest event space with water views. In addition to a reception and sit-down feast, the program includes video salutations of both honorees, a silent and live auction, and much more. This evening is held in partnership with Les Dames d'Escoffier New York, an invitational organization of women leaders in food, beverage and hospitality whose mission is education, advocacy and philanthropy.
Une soirée à couper le souffle attend tous ceux qui vont y assister! (A breathtaking evening is to be had by all that attend!)
