The renowned Port houses of The Fladgate Partnership and Quinta do Noval took to the road in June to showcase the recently declared 2011 Vintage Ports to press and trade in Los Angeles (The Beverly Hills Hotel), San Francisco (W Hotel) and New York (The Benjamin Hotel).  On tour were David Guimaraens, fifth generation winemaker of The Fladgate Partnership; Christian Seely, managing director of Quinta do Noval and Quinta da Romaneira; and Adrian Bridge, CEO of The Fladgate Partnership.

The tastings showcased five Port houses (Taylor Fladgate, Fonseca, Croft, Quinta do Noval and Romaneira) and included the extremely rare Quinta do Noval Nacional and Taylor Fladgate Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha.  2011 is emerging as one of the finest Port vintages in recent years; and, in fact, Jancis Robinson has claimed that “Ports are the best 2011 reds anywhere.”  In addition to the acclaimed 2011 Vintage Ports, which will be available in the fall, outstanding vintages from 2003-2009 were also presented on the tour.

Vintage Port holds pride of place in the universe of classic fine wines.  Its birthplace, the Douro Valley, is among the greatest of the world’s historic wine regions.  With a justified claim as the world’s first legally demarcated wine region, its vineyards were classified almost a century before those of Bordeaux.

For Taylor Fladgate, Fonseca and Croft, the 2011 declaration follows on the heels of four great vintages (2009, 2007, 2003 and 2000).  The three stellar Port houses are also celebrating their 25th anniversary as partners with Kobrand, their U.S. importer – a significant milestone and a rare one in any industry.
