Wines of Chile Partners With Guild of Sommeliers

For the fourth year in a row, Wines of Chile partnered with the Guild of Sommeliers to hold a series of Master Classes across the country.  The seminars were taught by Fred Dexheimer, MS and held in Washington, DC; Miami, FL; New York, NY; and San Francisco, CA this spring.

75 sommeliers participated in the program this year. At each event the groups were tested on their knowledge and one sommelier at each venue was selected to join Dexheimer on a tour of selected wineries this year. Winners included:

  • New York:  Victoria James of Aureole
  • DC:  Julie Dalton, Four Seasons Baltimore
  • San Francisco:  Gordana Josovic of Epic Roadhouse
  • Miami:  Chris Birnie-Visscher, Café Boulud, Palm Beach

“We had a great turnout this year and added a challenging dimension to the sessions with a double blind tasting of two wines unique to and definitive of Chile:  De Martino El Leon Carignan 2009 and Meli Dry Riesling 2011 ” said Dexheimer.

Jake Pippin, Marketing Coordinator of Wines of Chile USA added that the “most liked” wines in a follow up survey among participants were:

  • Don Maximiano 2007 from Errazuriz
  • Merino Limestone Hill Chardonnay 2012
  • Los Vascos Le Dix 2010
